The city is an interspecies habitat. This photographic essay focuses on the diversity and adaptability of the often-overlooked urban flora: on traffic islands, construction sites, and along roadsides, as well as in flower beds, community gardens, and greenhouses. With a text by Peter Del Tredici and an interview with Ludwig Haugk.

DETROIT: FIELD NOTES FROM A WILD CITY
The ever-changing “Motor City” is portrayed as an urban landscape full of contrasts and vitality. Brownfields, gardens, and urban ecosystems grow side by side, as do narratives of “comebacks,” land speculation and water shutoffs for residents, and an already existing post-growth community based on urban agriculture.

BITTERFELD
Bitterfeld is a detailed research of a deindustrialized mining and chemical industries center. Factories, industrial fog, and coal craters as well as almost 30,000 jobs disappeared within a few years during the 1990s. A completely new landscape emerged. The remnants of these dramatic change remained in soil, groundwater, and biographies.
